THE ROLLERCOASTER OF A MUSICAL PRODUCTION - Act 3: The Hustle & Getting Out There

WELCOME TO MUSICAL THEATER!

In this piece, more or less, we want to help bring you closer to the preparation process behind a musical production - the process that both challenges and inspires us. These notes are based on our current knowledge, personal events and projections. They are not coming from a place of any particularly elevated experience and instead merely strive to amplify interests. If you have any thoughts, we’d love to chat! Now, let’s dive in!

ACT 3: THE HUSTLE AND GETTING OUT THERE

SCENE 1: REHEARSAL AND WORK WORK WORK

By now, your cast and crew should be in full speed, D-Day is on the way!

Utilize all the time you have to ensure all is in top shape for opening night. Practice, practice, practice. However, even if you’re running behind schedule, don’t be alarmed. Just stay focused, stay determined and finish strong. And most importantly, be sure to cherish every moment with your crew, may this be the last or first of many productions.

SCENE 2: A BRAVE FACE

During the organizing process, there will be several moments where you’ll either want to or need to ask for help. This may take the form of personal advice, media, materialistic or financial sponsorship or manual assistance from as far as an established organization or simply your close friend. Perhaps you’re in a need of a theater and hope to have it hosted rather than arranged via rent. Whatever or however small it may be, don’t be scared! Putting on a musical is not an easy task!

If you need assistance, know your work, own your confidence and reach out to as many relatable sources as possible. Not every will respond with equal interest but as long as you follow your passion with a logical and practical plan, you will make it! Introduce the show to every one of your friends, acquaintances, via word of mouth and hanging up posters in different public places. Try to find other creative ways to promote the musical, too. Along the way, you might be surprised by the great relationships built with other theater enthusiasts or several generous sponsorship packages offered. Keep up the hard work, ‘cause it will pay off!

SCENE 3: AN EVEN BRAVER VOICE

“It’s their choice to go or not, but it’s our choice to let them know.” This advice, from someone we watch with much admiration, was a real eye opener.

The PR process for the show can be a stressful and emotionally straining one, as the numbers can sometimes make or break the entire production. Possibly it is because ticket sales or sponsor counts are your ways of paying for the venue or what serve as proof that your creation was one of high quality. Regardless, remember, there is always another way. But most importantly, they are not why.

Remember why you put on this show. Remember your love for the stage, the music and those who live for it. And be it ten or a thousand people that you touch with this piece, you still created something that utter no truth any other piece of art can tell.

Believe in your creation and parade it with pride, because who is going to if you yourself tremble. Spread the word. The world needs to know. This masterpiece deserves to be seen.
